Wireless Charging for smartphones and other gadgets is becoming more and more popular, but it’s been around for a few years already. Xtorm was one of the first to explore the possibilities of wireless charging, and continues doing so with many wireless chargers and power banks that are designed to make your life easier.
Advantages
Charging cables often look messy, or they end up disappearing behind pieces of furniture right when you need them. Wireless charging is useful because you don't have to plug in a charging cable every time you want to charge your smartphone. This is a perfect solution for places like your desk or nightstand. Having a Xtorm Wireless Charger will keep your house both stylish and organized.
Wireless charging is also an excellent charging solution if you’re in a restaurant or at an airport, since you don’t have to bring your own power adapter and cable or have to use the (often) damaged cables of a charging station. Wireless charging is much easier and safer.
The rise of wireless charging
Wireless charging is actually not anything new. In fact, it has been around ever since the late 19th century, when electricity pioneer and inventor Nikola Tesla demonstrated the technology. For a long time it didn’t see many practical implementations, apart from the electric toothbrush in recent decades. Since it was integrated in smartphones the technology has again seen a great increase in popularity.
Qi Standard
Wireless charging on smartphones has been around since 2012, when it was first implemented in the Nexus 4. It has massively improved since then, which is why more and more phone manufacturers include the option in their smartphones. Samsung, Huawei, LG, and Sony, among others, sell wirelessly rechargeable smartphones. Apple also joined the game a few years ago – all iPhone’s since the iPhone 8 support wireless charging.
This has boosted the awareness and popularity of the charging method even further. Other gadgets such as smartwatches and charging cases for wireless earbuds also support wireless charging.
Almost all smartphones and gadgets that charge wirelessly, including the Apple iPhone, use the Qi standard. The name Qi (pronounced 'chee') is borrowed from the Chinese language, meaning “life force” or "natural energy".
All Xtorm Wireless chargers are designed to be compatible with Qi Wireless charging.
FAQ
Can I wirelessly charge my phone when it’s in a protective case?
Xtorm wireless charging pads will charge through phone cases up to 3mm. It is important to note however that a metal case will prevent wireless charging. It has a negative effect on the charging process, because Qi wireless charging works by using a system of magnetic induction coils.
Will the wireless charger get hot?
All chargers and adapters generate some heat when they are in use - and that includes wireless chargers. Xtorm chargers have been tested thoroughly to make sure that they are safe to use. They include safety chips that prevent overcharging and overheating.
